Artist Statement
Sixteen Again, It’s Complicated, and Pop the Champagne, Mixed Media on Canvas.
My paintings begin with curiosity and end with recognition. Somewhere in between, I remember who I’ve always been.
The studio is where I indulge my curiosity, covering, revealing, and starting again before I know where I’m headed. Color arrives first as instinct, not decision. What stays and what gets painted over is not always my choice to make.
Sometimes a painting knows more than I do. Making art has taught me to trust what appears before I understand it, and to let the wrong mark become the right one.
My work is not about arriving somewhere new. It is about circling back to something true, and letting it show. When others stand in front of it, I hope they recognize something of themselves too.
